PostSubject: Cannons   Sun Oct 07, 2007 11:50 am

It is said that a German monk called Berthold Schwarz invented the cannon in the 14th century (chronicles of Ghent). Cannons were made of iron bars welded together and strengthened with iron hoops, in the form of a barrel. They used gunpowder to fire stone or metal balls, and arrows or quarrels (smaller ones).

It seems Edward III used cannons in his Scotland campaign in 1327.
